We are delighted to inform you of an upcoming event, the “Future Chemists of America Scholastic Tournament”, that will be hosted on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Enloe Magnet High School. This event is an incredible opportunity for your students, especially those who excel in their science and chemistry courses, to compete, collaborate, and discover with other like-minded high schoolers across eastern North Carolina.
The tournament is hosted by the student-run organization Future Chemists of America at Enloe High School. High school students will compete in both individual and team rounds that cover a wide variety of chemistry topics. Lab knowledge-based questions may be included as a part of the exam. The scores are tabulated based on students’ performance on a comprehensive exam. There will two divisions of the tournament, intermediate and advanced levels, which will cover Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry, respectively.
This year, we are introducing another facet of the FCA Scholastic Tournament, the poster presentation. The focus for the 2018 poster presentation is Environmental Sustainability. Students are invited to create a visually-appealing poster that adequately addresses and discusses innovative research, current events, or other interesting topics that directly relate to the theme of Environmental Sustainability. Students who plan to submit a poster should indicate this on the registration form. Students can compete in either intermediate or advanced testing while still submitting a poster for the competition. We hope to see a plethora of creative and innovative posters that competitors and coaches may look at throughout the competition day. Awards will be given in all competition categories.
We strongly encourage you to share this information with students in all of your classes, as we know that students are eager to find these opportunities to showcase and challenge the knowledge that they have acquired. For the students in your school who show interest in this event, please use or share the link below to register for the event. The event will be free of charge. It is preferred that there is at least one teacher who is aware of their school’s participating students. This teacher can be listed as the team coach on registration forms. After registering, more information will be sent regarding tournament logistics.
